The CBA Programme, offered by the Applied Statistics and Computing (ASC) Lab at ISB, has a strong alumni network of 750+ analytics professionals and the current class of 141 participants from Hyderabad and Mohali cohort will be added to the alumni through the graduating class.

Professor Ramabhadran Thirumalai, Senior Associate Dean, Academic Programmes welcomed the gathering at the Khemka Auditorium, Hyderabad campus. He mentioned that the analytic tools taught in our CBA programme would help our students contribute towards better decision making in businesses. He said, “It is important for the country to have a strong repository of business analytics graduates, as it will help bridge the growth in the period of technological disruption. Business analytics is at the cutting edge of business. More and more jobs require some exposure to analytics, be it in the form of knowing statistics, programming in languages like R and Python or the ability to handle, analyse and visualise large datasets”. Professor Sridhar Seshadri, Senior Research Fellow and a Special Advisor to the Dean also addressed the gathering and congratulated the graduates.

141 graduates of the 9th batch of CBA programme received their graduation certificates and are now a part of the 750+ strong alumni network of analytics professionals of ISB’s ASC Lab.

ISB’s CBA is one of the most prestigious contemporary analytics programmes in the country that trains the students on four important aspects of business analytics – Statistics, Programming, Machine Learning, and Business Applications. The programme is designed for business professionals to maximise learning, with minimum disruption to professional responsibilities. This hands-on, rigorous programme aims to strike a perfect balance between classroom and technology-aided learning.

Mr S Sivakumar, Group Head, Agri and IT Businesses, ITC Ltd. was the Guest of Honour. In his speech, he opined that business analytics is currently the most required skill for businesses. Some of the important opportunities for the CBA graduates include – data scientists, data translators and business analysts. It will also help in the organisation’s digital transformation in a big way. “While business analytics can be done from many places, the advantage of ISB is its strong linkage with businesses that help immensely to leverage data”, he said.

Our CBA programme has been supported by the industry who sponsored projects exposing the students to challenging business problems and helped mentor them in developing the analytics solutions. Organisations like NITI Ayog, Ernst and Young, General Mills India, KPMG, L&T Technology Services, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Rockwell Automation, Viacom18, among many others were involved. Through these projects, students got exposure to diverse industrial sectors.

Some of the students from the graduated class developed interesting solutions for specially-abled kids with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques. Few students built a startup in Blockchain and got funding from pioneers. One of the student team developed Edison V2, a smart glass using AI, which helps visually impaired to walk safely and smartly on the streets. One of the students was part of the team that recently secured the top award by Government of India's StartupIndia initiative.

Professor Manish Gangwar, Executive Director, ASC concluded the ceremony and called upon the ceremonial hat toss. It is not every day that one graduate. Graduation day is overwhelming with emotions for grads and their families alike.

We wish the best to the graduates for all their future endeavours!
