Bharti Institute of Public Policy

The Bharti Institute of Public Policy is a research institute located at ISB’s Mohali campus. Its main objectives are: to promote high quality research and education, to train students through long-term and short-term programs and to engage with, and inform, policy formulation and implementation, particularly in developing countries. The Bharti Institute of Public Policy is proud to have the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA, as its partner school. Bharti Institute also offers a Public Policy specialization for students pursuing the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management at ISB

The Institute has identified the following areas for focus: Governance, Corporate Governance, Financial Sector Policy, Food Policy, Energy, and Education. The Institute works closely with government institutions (central, state and local), international bodies and non-governmental organisations in furtherance of its mandate. An indicative list of projects which were completed/on-going in 2016-17 is given below:

  • Development of a Global Forest Tenure Security Index.

  • Central Square Foundation (CSF) project on improving performance management and accountability in the Education Sector in India.

  • Commonwealth Secretariat Case Study on UPSC.

  • 181 Punjab Police Helpline Evaluation Project.

  • Cold Chain Development for Fruits-&-Vegetables in India: Study of Kinnow supply chain.

As part of the outreach activities, the Bharti Institute works with government and other policy related organizations, for eg: the Bharti Institute entered into an MoU with National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) for data access, research and other collaborative activities. The Institute has also been in engagement with the Govt. of Punjab to evolve a Regional Innovation Policy, and hosted a well-attended  workshop on policies for Incubators and Start-Ups. In addition, the institute also organized other outreach activities like Seminars, Speaker Sessions, Policy Workshops, and introduced an informal discussion series called ‘Slice of Policy’.

The Institute also conducts a Management Programme in Public Policy (MPPP), which is one-year long flagship programme for mid-career and senior level professionals from government, private and development sectors. Currently the second batch of MPPP is underway.
