Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for South Asia and the Commonwealth and the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, UK visited our Mohali campus on March 16, 2021.

During his visit to our Mohali campus, Lord Ahmad interacted with Professor Rambhadran Thirumalai and went for a campus tour. He also interacted with PGP students of class of 2021 and select alumni on several aspects of UK-India Partnerships, COP 26, education etc.

The stage was set by Lord Ahmad’s opening remarks that touched upon the power of education and how one can carry learnings anywhere they go, how the nature of business changed with the pandemic, how climate change is very much real and the strong collaboration that exists between the UK and Indian government.

As the interaction with the student community continued, Lord Ahmad spoke about his childhood and how the impact of education and exposure to different cultures helped him transition from a career in finance to politics. He spoke about UK’s strategic relationships with India and how UK has the largest diplomatic ties with the nation. He also discussed about the joint ten year roadmap that UK and India have entered and how both Prime Ministers are great champions of using technology to spur development. It was a morning well spent with the students.

He was accompanied by the British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis and British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh, Caroline Rowett.

We are glad to have worked with the British diplomatic missions in India including the High Commission in New Delhi, Deputy High Commission in Hyderabad and Chandigarh. ISB has also hosted the Young Thinkers’ Conference on its Hyderabad and Mohali campus in association with the British Deputy High Commission Hyderabad and Chandigarh.
