Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India

Shri V. Muraleedharan, born on 12 December 1958 in Kanuur District of Kerala to Shri Gopalan Vannathan Veettil and Smt. Devaki Namballi Vellam Velli, was sworn in as a Union Minister of State on 30 May 2019 by the President of India.

Shri V. Muraleedharan officially took charge as Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs on 31 May 2019.

After graduating in English Language and Literature from Government Brennen College, Thalassery, Kerala. Shri Muraleedharan started his journey as an activist in socio-political affairs which vastly enriched his experience. He held various positions such as Vice Chairman of Nehru Yuva Kendra (under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India) from 1999-2002 and later Director General, Nehru Yuva Kendra from 2002-2004.

In April 2018, Shri Muraleedharan was elected to Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra. In June 2018, he was nominated as Member to the Standing Committee on External Affairs. In June 2018, he was also appointed as a Member to the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Railways. Later in December 2018, he was appointed as a Member of the Committee on Rules.

Shri Muraleedharan is married to Dr. K.S. Jayasree.

André Aranha Corrêa do Lago
Ambassador of Brazil to India

Ambassador Corrêa do Lago, since 1983, he worked as a diplomat and hosted several events in Brazil in areas of Trade Promotion, International Organisations, Protocol, Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate Change. He later served at the Brazilian Embassies in Madrid (1986-1988), Prague (1988-1991), Washington DC (1996-1999) and Buenos Aires (1999-2001) and at the Mission to the European Union, in Brussels (2005-2008).

Between 2008 and 2011, he was the Director – General, Department of Energy, Ministry of External Relations. He was then the Director – General, Department of the Environment, Ministry of External Relations, between 2011 and 2013. He was also the Chief Negotiator for Climate Change and Rio+20 Conference (2012).

Ambassador Corrêa do Lago presented Letters of Credentials to His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on November 7, 2013. Most recently, Ambassador Corrêa do Lago presented his Letters of Credentials to the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on December 7, 2018.

Ambassador Corrêa do Lago holds a degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He also graduated from Instituto Rio Branco (Brazilian Diplomatic Academy), Brazil in 1983.

Amartya Lahiri
Director of CAFRAL (Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning) Amartya Lahiri is the Director of CAFRAL (Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning) in Mumbai, India and Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Prior to this, he has held appointments at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. His primary areas of research are macroeconomics, international economics, and development economics. Lahiri has worked on inflation stabilisation programmes, exchange rate management, policy responses to balance of payments crises, financial crisis, economic growth theory, and cross-country differences in income and productivity levels.
Ashwini Chhatre
Associate Professor and Academic Director - Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School of Business Ashwini Chhatre is a Professor of Public Policy at ISB. He is also the Academic Director – Bharti Institute of Public Policy and Executive Director - Digital Identity Research Initiative at ISB.

Between his BA in Economics from University of Delhi in 1990 and the start of his PhD at Duke, Chhatre spent 11 years working in different parts of India, mostly as a community organiser and social activist working on issues related to natural resources like land, forests and water.
He served as a senior editor for four years at Wiley and has contributed in several prestigious research journals.

His interest lies in a plethora discipline – Economics, graduate training in Political Science and longstanding engagement with scholarship in Geography, Anthropology, Conservation Biology, Landscape Ecology and Environmental History.

Ajay Kumar, IFS
Joint Secretary, Development Partnership Administration, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India

Shri A Ajay Kumar joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in the year 2001, and he is currently posted as Joint Secretary (Development Partnership Administration-I).

During 2003-2006, Shri Ajay Kumar was posted as Third Secretary between 2003 and 2005 and as Second Secretary [Info] and Head of Chancery during 2005-06 in the Indian Embassy in Tehran. He learned the Persian Language during this stay in Iran. After that, he returned to India and served in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi as Under Secretary dealing with Pakistan during 2006-08.

He served in the Indian Embassy in Bahrain where he headed the Political Section (2008-2012) and in Tehran (2012-14). He was appointed India’s Ambassador to Iraq in 2014. He played a significant role in rescuing Indian nurses stranded in various hospitals in the crisis-ridden area of Iraq during 2014-15. After the completion of the Iraq assignment, he served as Deputy High Commissioner in Canberra, Australia (2016-17).

He served in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi in the Indian Ocean Region of MEA as Joint Secretary (IOR-II) before assuming his charge as JS (DPA-I).

Shri A Ajay Kumar holds the graduate degree of BA in Political Science and LLB from the University of Calicut in Kerala.

Bhagwan Chowdhry
Area Leader and Professor of Finance, Indian School of Business

Bhagwan Chowdhry, Professor of Finance at Indian School of Business. Bhagwan Chowdhry began his teaching career at UCLA Anderson in 1988. Here he found “an opportunity to work with and learn from outstanding faculty colleagues and an ability to work with students on projects that will make a difference in the world.” During his tenure he has also been a visiting professor and lecturer at a variety of institutions, including the University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Indian School of Business. He is a current visiting scholar at the Stellar Development Foundation.

He received his Ph.D. in 1989 from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He also has an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Iowa and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology.

His research interests, on which he has published several papers in finance and economics journals, are in International Finance, Corporate Finance, Impact Investing, and FinTech. He has been on the editorial board of a number of finance journals. He teaches Corporate Finance, Impact Creation, Analysis & Measurement, and Blockchain Applications in FinTech. He has also organised and taught Executive Education programs on Financial Derivatives, Corporate Risk Management and Valuation in Los Angeles, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

Professor Chowdhry has proposed Financial Access at Birth (FAB) initiative in which every child born in the world is given an initial deposit of $100 in an online bank account to guarantee that everyone in the world will have access to financial services in a few decades.

Harinder Sidhu
Australian High Commissioner to India

High Commissioner Harinder Sidhu has held the post of Australia’s High Commissioner to India since February 2016. She also holds non-resident accreditation to the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Ms Sidhu brings over 30 years’ experience in government. She began her career as a diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Before her appointment to India, she served as head of the Department’s Multilateral Policy Division with responsibility for Australia’s relationships with the UN and UN agencies, the UN Security Council and the Commonwealth.

Between 2008 and 2013, Ms Sidhu held the post of First Assistant Secretary in the Department of Climate Change. Prior to that, she served in several senior roles in government, particularly on defence and national security matters in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Office of National Assessments.

Ms Sidhu has served overseas at Australian Embassies in Damascus and Moscow, and was also posted to Cairo where she studied the Arabic language. She holds degrees in Economics and Law from the University of Sydney.

Harish P
Additional Secretary, Economic Diplomacy & States Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India

Since joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1990, Parvathaneni Harish has learnt Arabic at the American University of Cairo and passed the examination with distinction.

He has served in the Indian Missions in Cairo and Riyadh and headed the Post as India's Representative to the Palestinian Authority stationed in Gaza city. He was on Secondment to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as the Chief of the Policy Analysis Unit at UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza.

He thereafter worked in the East Asia and External Publicity Divisions in the Ministry of External Affairs. For a period of five years since 2007, Harish was the Joint Secretary and Officer on Special Duty to the Hon'ble Vice President of India and Chairman of the council of States of the Indian Parliament. Harish was Consul General of India, Houston, USA since during 2012-2016. He was Ambassador of India to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam during April 2016-June 2019.

Parvathaneni Harish is a gold medalist Mechanical Engineering graduate from Osmania University College of Engineering, Hyderabad and has studied at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

Jayesh Ranjan, IAS
Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce and Information Technology, Government of Telangana

Jayesh Ranjan is a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) of the 1992 batch and working in the state of Telangana. He holds a Masters Degree in Psychology from Delhi University, a degree in Business Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and a Masters in Public Management from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. He has also done short courses in the University of Birmingham (on Environmental Policy Analysis), JICA training Institute, Tokyo (on lake remediation), London School of Economics (on Globalization and Leadership), Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (in Public Policy), and Swedish Institute, Stockholm (on Sustainability and CSR). He is the All-India topper of his IAS batch of 1992. He was awarded World Bank’s Social Capital Visiting Scholarship in 2002 and the British Government’s Gurukul Chevening Scholarship in 2005. He has done international consultancy assignments for the World Bank, UN-ESCAP, Sedatu project of Mexico, and for international NGOs working for Youth Issues like YES, Inc of the USA and NMC from Italy. He is a part of the National Pool of Trainers in Leadership constituted by the Government of India, and is involved in training and mentoring newly recruited Civil Servants.

Jayesh Ranjan is the Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments of the Telangana government. His assignment involves developing policy frameworks, attracting new investments, identifying opportunities of utilizing IT in various government processes, and promoting digital empowerment of the citizens. His last few assignments have been in the Industrial Promotion sector as Commissioner and MD of the Industries Department, Secretary in the Tourism Promotion Department, and Vice-Chairman of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), all for 2-3 years each, and various rural assignments in different parts of the state for over 12 years, working in diverse sectors like Tribal Development, Natural Resources Management, Poverty Alleviation and other related Social Development Sectors.

Jayadev Galla
Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Amara Raja Batteries Ltd.

Jayadev Galla, also known as Jay Galla or Galla Jayadev, is an Indian politician and industrialist in India. He is the managing director of Amara Raja Group and TDP Parliamentary Party Leader. Jayadev is a member of 16th and 17th Lok Sabha of India representing from Guntur Lok Sabha constituency and a member of Telugu Desam Party.

Jay holds a bachelors’ degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA. As an avid sports lover, he has played chess and tennis at a competitive level. He also enjoys golf, motor sports, diving, travel and pop culture in general. Married with two children; in his leisure time he loves spending time with his family and participating in community development initiatives.
After finishing his education in the US, Jayadev Galla worked for a while as an International Sales Executive for GNB Battery Technologies, Inc., USA (now part of Exide Technologies, Inc., USA). He then started as a management executive at Amara Raja Batteries in 1992, from where he has grown to take over as the Managing Director in 2003.

Under his stewardship, the company has grown steadily to become a significant player in the battery segment in the country.
Since 2009, he has also been the Managing Director of Group Company Galla Foods.

Joel Reifman
US Consul General in Hyderabad Consul General Joel Reifman assumed the post of U.S. Consul General in Hyderabad on August 20, 2019. Prior to this assignment in Hyderabad, India, Reifman served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has served at the State Department in Washington D.C. in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research and as Deputy Director of the Office of Aviation Negotiations in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs. Reifman was also a Pearson Fellow in the Office of Senator Joseph Lieberman. Reifman’s prior overseas assignments include Senior Deputy Coordinating Director for Development and Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, Charge d’ Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea, Provincial Reconstruction Team Leader in Iraq’s western Anbar province, and Economic Counselor at both the U.S. Embassy in Panama and the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. Before joining the State Department, Reifman served as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University.


Kieran Drake
Minister Counsellor, Political and Press, British High Commission

Kieran Drake is Minister Counsellor, Political and Press at the British High Commission in New Delhi. He took up the position in May 2017.

Kieran joined the UK Civil Service in 2005 and has previously worked in the Prime Minister's Office, HM Treasury (the Finance Ministry) and most recently at the Department for Exiting the European Union.

Mekapati Goutham Reddy

He was born on 2nd November 1971, the eldest child of Shri M Raja Mohan Reddy & Smt Mani Manjaree, a distinguished family of first generation entrepreneurs engaged in building infrastructure and creating assets for the nation.

Having completed his schooling from “Good Shepherd Public School, Ooty and went on to complete his Masters at Manchester, UK specialised in Textiles.

After completing his studies, Goutham Reddy joined his family business at KMC constructions in March 1997. His passion, hard work, tenacity led KMC to great growth and success.

He has lived on construction sites working closely with the public, labour and engineers to ensure execution of project within time and cost. During this period, he visited many interior places of the country / state and found that a lot had to be done to ensure all round development of the people.

An opportunity came when Shri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy asked him to join the new YSRC party and serve the people of this state. Mr. Goutham Reddy in 2014 fought his first election from the assembly constituency of Atmakur and also won the 2019 contest by a handsome margin.

From the day he entered politics, Goutham Reddy has been serving the people of his constituency, listening to their problems and providing solutions to them wherever possible. A matter very close to his heart is providing water to the constituents.

Goutham Reddy came up with unique ideas like Pipal Tree Ventures that has trained thousands of young men in basic vocational skills for the fast changing infrastructure industry. He is also the founder of Peachtree Projects LLP.

M V Rajeev Gowda
Hon’ble Member of Parliament

Professor M. V. Rajeev Gowda is an Indian Member of Parliament. He represents Karnataka state and the Indian National Congress party in the upper house, the Rajya Sabha. Until 2014, he was Professor of Economics and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore where he also served as Chairperson, Centre for Public Policy. He has been a Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India and a Carnegie Council Global Ethics Fellow. His most recent co-edited book is India’s Risks, Oxford University Press India 2014.

Nitin Pai
Co-Founder & Director, Takshashila Institution

Nitin Pai is co-founder and director of the Takshashila Institution, an independent centre for research and education in public policy. Rajendra Srivastava is the Dean of the Indian School of Business (ISB) and the Novartis Professor of Marketing strategy and Innovation. Shailendra Kumar Joshi, IAS

Dr Joshi is an Electronics and Communications Engineering graduate from IIT, Roorkee. He also has a Masters in Communications and Radar Engineering. He started his career in Indian Railways, but after eight months, he joined the IAS in 1984. He started as an Assistant Collector in Nellore, worked as Sub Collector in Tenali and Vikarabad, Joint Collector and Collector of Krishna.

As secretary, principal secretary and special chief secretary, Mr. Joshi handled the departments of Information Technology, Irrigation and Command Area Development, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Energy, Medical and Health and Revenue.

He had a nine-year stint in the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change in two spells in the Central service and served a year as the Vice-Chairman of Joint Implementation Mechanism of Kyoto Protocol in Bonn, Germany. He was also associated with the UN Conference on Environment and Development and UN Summit on Sustainable Development.

Author of a book Management of Trans-boundary Water Resources, one of Mr. Joshi's big achievements was seeing flowing water in various projects, especially in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district. His dream is to complete the Kaleshwaram Project in time.

TRS Polit Bureau Member, Political Affairs Committee Member and Manifesto Committee Member from 2001 – 2014. In 2014 he assumed as Vice-Chairman of Telangana State Planning board. In December, 2018 he got elected as MLA from Wanaparthy Assembly Constituency

Shamika Ravi

Srini has an MS in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Utah State University, USA and a BS in Civil Engineering with Honors from REC (NIT), Kurukshetra.

Srini has over 35 years of experience in Information Technology, Venture Capital and Private Equity. Prior to iLabs Group, Srini was Founding CEO & MD of Dun & Bradstreet Satyam Software (later became Cognizant Technology Solutions) and Satyam Enterprise Solutions.

Number of iLabs Investee Companies have become Leading Companies in their respective areas. Sri City, a leading Industrial City started by iLabs Group is home to over 150 companies from 25 Countries and two of India's leading Universities.

Srini is passionate about Educations and Skills Development. Suhasini Haidar
Diplomatic Editor, The Hindu

In over 20-year reporting career, Suhasini has covered the most challenging stories and conflicts from the most diverse regions, including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Libya, Lebanon and Syria. In India, she has covered the foreign affairs beat for over a decade. Along the way, Suhasini has had the privilege of interviewing many world leaders and has interviewed leaders of all SAARC countries.

She has hosted a prime time show at CNN-IBN – WorldView (2005-2014). Over the years, she has received several awards for her work – Prem Bhatia award, Haldighati Award, Maharana Mewar Foundation Award – Best Journalist, among others. 

She was also a part of the CNN team that won the Columbia-DuPont Broadcast Journalism Award in 2005 for coverage of the tsunami in India and worked for CNN.com in New York for a month during its 9/11 coverage. 

TCA Raghavan
Director General, Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA)

T C A Raghavan retired from the Indian Foreign Service in December 2015 while Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan (2013-15). He had earlier served as Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan (2003-2007) and High Commissioner to Singapore from 2009 to 2013.

During his last posting in New Delhi (2007-09) in the Ministry of External Affairs Raghavan was Joint Secretary dealing with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. He has also served in Kuwait, the United Kingdom, and Bhutan. Posts earlier held in the Ministry of External Affairs include Director of the Office of the External Affairs Minister (2000-2003).

He was awarded a PhD by the Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1992 for his dissertation relating to the economic history of India.

His current interests are historical research, strategic analysis and the diplomatic and intellectual history of modern India. He writes, lectures and participates in discussions on issues relating to Indian and South Asian diplomatic history, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and South East Asia.

His first book was published in January 2017: Attendant Lords, Bairam Khan and Abdur Rahim- Courtiers and Poets in Mughal India. It was awarded the Mohammad Habib Memorial Prize by the Indian History Congress in December 2017.

His latest book was published recently and is entitled ‘The People Next Door- The Curious History of India’s relations with Pakistan’.

He assumed charge as Director General, Indian Council of World Affairs on 24th July, 2018.
