The Institutional Review Board (IRB) oversees the review of research involving human participants.
It is a committee responsible for conducting ethical reviews of proposed research studies involving human subjects. The purpose is to ensure that experiments or surveys are designed to address legal and ethical considerations, and do not pose unnecessary risks to participants.
All proposed research involving human subjects must undergo review and approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) before participant recruitment and data collection can commence. The primary objective of the IRB is to minimise any risks for subjects resulting from the study, while enabling researchers to gather essential information. Privacy and confidentiality of the participants are sought to be protected.
To submit an IRB application, please write to us at IRBassist@isb.edu.
If you are unsure whether your project requires IRB review and approval, you may send your query and details of the project to us via email. You will receive an official confirmation regarding whether your study qualifies for IRB approval, or you may be requested to provide additional information.
The ISB-IRB application can be accessed by writing to IRBassist@isb.edu
IRB Application help sessions: The Institutional Review Board(IRB) at ISB hosts tutorials for getting familiarised with the IRB process. If your department would like to register as a group for the training session, please write to us at the above email.
The ISB Institutional Review Board and the FWA recommend that all researchers involved in human subjects research — the investigators, assistants, sponsors, and other research staff — undergo an online training programme at www.citiprogram.org, and submit their CITI certification to the IRB office.
The ISB-IRB Composition is in accordance with federal regulations
[45 CFR 46]
The IRB reviews the research protocol, related materials (e.g., informed consent documents), and objectives for approval.
