Overview
The Fellow Programme in Management (equivalent to PhD) has been carefully designed to prepare you for an exciting and fulfilling career in academia. This is a full time programme.
The fpm requires 5 years of full-time study, closely working with faculty guides and also pursuing independent research interests. During the first two years of the programme, students are required to complete extensive course work across the basic disciplines of management. Their performance will determine their admission to fpm candidacy.
Typical Stages of Progression
From completing your core courses and taking the examinations in the first year to finally defending your dissertation in five years, you will be mentored in all stages of the programme.

Complete area specific elective courses. Write FPM Comprehensive Exam by the end of year 2, as per area requirement. |
Year 3 | Complete second research paper. |

Based on the satisfactory performance in course work, first research paper, second research paper, comprehensive exam, the student is admitted to FPM candidacy. |
Year 4 |
Identify Dissertation Chairperson and Dissertation Committee Members. Identify a dissertation topic, complete preliminary research work on the topic, and work on a dissertation proposal. Defend the proposal by end of fourth year. |
Year 5 |
Continue work on dissertation. Based on the dissertation defense, completion of subsequent revisions, the Dissertation Committee’s recommendation, and the Graduate Student Committee’s approval the candidateis conferred the title “Fellow in Management”. |
The Fellow Programme in Accounting trains students to research contemporary issues in the field using the latest empirical research techniques. Students must possess intellectual curiosity, an appreciation of institutional detail, and a strong aptitude for quantitative analysis. It is not essential for you to have prior training in accounting, although exposure to the implications of accounting, (for example, as a user of accounting information), is preferable. Faculty research interests include economics of the auditing profession, corporate governance, earnings management, accounting conservatism, voluntary disclosure, and executive compensation. You will interact closely and learn from distinguished faculty members who have published in top-ranked accounting journals such as The Accounting Review.

The programme exposes you to a stimulating breath of sub-disciplines within financial economics. Students are closely mentored by faculty to become skilled independent researchers and academicians. The finance faculty at ISB are regarded for their excellence in research, with publications in top-tier finance journals. Their interests span diverse areas such as the design of IPO mechanisms, promotions and internal labour markets, the links between bankruptcy codes and innovation, and information revelation in future markets. From corporate finance theory and market microstructure, to microfinance and financial econometrics, you can expect to engage in lively discussions with faculty in these areas. An ideal background to excel in this discipline includes undergraduate or postgraduate training in economics, mathematics, engineering, statistics, or other quantitative disciplines.

The faculty in the Information Systems (IS) area at ISB come from the top business schools in the world such as Carnegie Mellon, University of Texas, University of Rochester and Stanford University. They use quantitative tools such as game theory and econometrics, and extensively use economics and strategy as reference disciplines to study topics in software product planning and pricing, human capital development in knowledge-intensive organisations such as IT services firms, electronic commerce and internet advertising, organisation and value of outsourcing relationships, impact of IT on firm value and on society, and the organisation and value of social networks. The area faculty have established strong publication records in the top academic journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research and Management Information Systems Quarterly. Several top academicians from universities such as New York University, University of Minnesota and the University of Connecticut visit the IS area regularly to collaborate on research. The IS area also hosts an international academic conference in Information Systems every year. This conference regularly attracts the best of the researchers from the United States. Marketing is an interdisciplinary field that draws upon theory and methodology from a wide variety of knowledge areas, including psychology, sociology, mathematics, statistics, and economics. The Fellow Programme in Operations Management is designed to train students to use quantitative tools and analytical frameworks from several disciplines to study managerial problems in areas such as supply chain management, service delivery, product development, transportation, retail and manufacturing. The programme combines diverse analytical disciplines such as game theory, econometrics, mathematical programming, probability and statistics, stochastic processes and the theory of algorithms, and operations strategy, to immerse students in an intellectually stimulating environment conducive for high quality research. You will benefit from faculty in this area, who have doctoral degrees in operations management / operations research from top universities such as University of California in Los Angeles, Cornell University, University of Rochester, and Georgia Institute of Technology. Research and Academic Training
Research is an integral part of the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). The programme grooms you to become a research entrepreneur who can offer creative ideas and set a precedence in the area of management research.
The Indian School of Business (ISB) ensures that faculty and students are equipped with the necessary research and technological resources to break into the frontiers of new knowledge.
