Since childhood, I was fascinated by emerging technologies, and this passion led me to build my career in software development. Last year, I was preparing to pursue my long-held dream of a Master’s in Computer Science abroad. I cleared GRE and TOEFL and secured admission to top universities where I imagined immersing myself in cutting-edge technologies and global exposure.

But life had other plans. When my mother was hospitalised, I had to cancel my plans and return home. It was a sudden decision, and I had little time to think about alternatives. Though difficult, I knew my family needed me more than anything else.

Coming from a business family, I also began reflecting on how I could contribute to our legacy and step into a role traditionally taken up by men. It became clear that I needed to complement my technical background with management and leadership capabilities.

Discovering ISB and Redefining Purpose

This is when ISB stood out for me. The PGP PRO offered exactly what I was looking for: the opportunity to grow professionally without stepping away from my responsibilities.

The weekend format, strong alumni network and leadership focus made it the right fit for my personal circumstances and long-term goals. It aligned perfectly with my motivation to transition from a purely technical role into someone who could bridge technology and strategy.

At this stage of my career, I had accumulated valuable experience but realised that to progress further, I needed business acumen, strategic thinking and the ability to lead teams. ISB offered the balance between academic rigour, peer learning and flexibility. It felt like the programme that could shape the kind of leader I wanted to become.

Early Insights, Transitions and Learning Moments

Transitioning from weekday work to weekend classes was initially challenging, but I quickly learnt to structure my week better. I now treat weekends as a dedicated investment in my growth. Surprisingly, the energy and insights I gain from ISB motivate me to approach my weekday work with more clarity and confidence.

One of the most eye-opening moments during the initial sessions was realising how diverse perspectives reshape the way you approach a problem. Listening to classmates from industries such as consulting, finance, operations and entrepreneurship made every discussion feel like a mini case study.

While our challenges differ, the underlying principles of leadership and decision-making remain similar. Interacting with such an experienced cohort has been enriching and has expanded the way I think about impact and innovation.

Looking Ahead: Leadership, Resilience and Advice to Others

The very process of preparing for ISB has shifted my mindset. I now see career growth as a blend of technical capability, vision, resilience and adaptability. I no longer view myself only as a developer, but as a future leader who can bring together technology and business impact. I look forward to immersing myself in case-based learning, collaborating with peers and contributing both leadership and innovation.

If I could share one piece of advice with future applicants, it would be this: your journey does not have to be perfect. When I had to abandon my initial plan of studying abroad, I felt uncertain and lost, but setbacks can open new doors. Be honest with yourself, reflect on your goals and you will find that ISB has a way of fitting into your story.

Looking ahead, my goal is to build a multi-faceted career where I combine my technology background with strategic decision-making and leadership skills. I hope to create value for both my family business and the broader community, and to inspire other women to step confidently into roles of impact.
