From Execution to Context: How PGP MAX Is Changing My Leadership Journey

For most of my career, leadership meant one thing: execution. Deliver the outcome, solve the problem, move to the next challenge.

But midway through ISB’s PGP MAX program, I began noticing a subtle shift in how I approached decisions. I was spending less time searching for immediate answers and more time understanding context, alignment, and long-term impact. That change in mindset, from execution-first to context-first, has been one of the most meaningful outcomes of the program so far.

I currently serve as Director of Firm Operations at Citrin Cooperman, where I work across strategic planning, execution, and enterprise-level operational initiatives in a complex and growing organisation.

Choosing Learning at an Inflexion Point

For many years, ISB had been an aspiration. But at this stage of my career, I was clear about one thing: I was not looking for a credential alone. I wanted a learning experience that could stretch my thinking while I continued to lead, alongside peers navigating similar levels of responsibility, scale, and ambiguity.

That is what drew me to PGP MAX.

The program is designed for leaders at an inflexion point in their careers. Its emphasis on peer learning, real-world application, and leadership mindset rather than only functional expertise makes it a distinctive experience.

Choosing to begin this journey was not easy. Managing professional responsibilities alongside academic commitments means that most of the time, after work goes into coursework and preparation, often requiring compromises on the personal front. I remain deeply grateful to the people who encouraged and supported me in making this decision. Their belief, especially during moments of uncertainty, gave me the confidence to pursue this opportunity at a pivotal stage in my career.

Being selected for the program felt both humbling and affirming. It reinforced my belief that meaningful growth depends as much on timing as it does on ambition.

What PGP MAX Has Already Changed

At the halfway point, the program has already begun shaping how I think and lead in my current role.

While the classroom offers structure and frameworks, the deeper transformation has been internal. My approach has gradually shifted from execution-first to context-first. From searching for quick answers to asking better questions, from focusing only on getting things done to creating alignment and leading change.

The program has also sharpened my ability to balance immediate outcomes with long-term impact. I consciously try to apply learning from each term in my role, which has made the experience deeply practical. In several instances, I have been able to introduce new approaches at work based on ideas explored during the program.

The shift is visible in small but meaningful ways. I now find myself structuring conversations with greater clarity and purpose, articulating decisions with stronger logic and stakeholder awareness, and navigating ambiguity with greater confidence.

Even small wins such as achieving alignment faster, reducing back-and-forth discussions, or influencing outcomes without escalation signal real progress. Together, these changes reflect a more deliberate and scalable approach to leadership that PGP MAX is helping me build.

Learning from the Cohort and the Classroom

One of the most powerful aspects of the program has been learning alongside a diverse and accomplished cohort. The collective insight in the classroom often goes far beyond any single framework.

Peer discussions regularly challenge assumptions, broaden perspectives, and reshape how problems are framed. Sometimes, a simple comment from a classmate: “In my industry, this approach doesn’t work, and here’s why” can open up entirely new ways of thinking.

Some of the most impactful learning moments happen outside formal sessions. Conversations between classes, late-night group work, and informal discussions during cohort gatherings often become the most memorable parts of the experience.

The classroom sessions themselves have also been deeply influential. Strategy discussions with Professor Ram and organisational behaviour sessions with Professor Sripada helped me better understand how strategy and human dynamics intersect in real organisational contexts. These insights have already proven valuable in several projects I have been working on in my current role.

On a personal level, the program has strengthened my self-awareness as a leader. I have developed a deeper appreciation of how my decisions and leadership style influence others, and how openness to different viewpoints leads to stronger outcomes.

Looking Ahead

Through this journey, I have become less focused on execution alone and more focused on creating clarity, alignment, and sustainable impact.

Looking ahead, I aspire to grow into a transformational leadership role where I can help shape strategy, lead large-scale change, and build resilient and future-ready organisations. My focus is on driving sustainable transformation by aligning people, processes, and technology while leading with clarity, accountability, and long-term value creation.

If there are a few things I wish I had known before starting the program, they would be these. The real value of PGP MAX comes from participation and openness, not perfection. Impact matters more than coverage; it is not about absorbing every concept, but about applying a few deeply and thoughtfully. And perhaps most importantly, discomfort is often a sign that real growth is happening.

PGP MAX has helped me realise something important quite early in the journey. The real impact of the program does not begin after graduation. It begins while you are still in it.

And that, to me, is what makes the learning truly meaningful.
