Diversity OR Cultural and Identity Narratives
Growing up half-French and half-Japanese, I have always been curious about international business, especially in Asia. I wanted to challenge myself and step out of the familiar life I knew in France. Family, friends, routines, and comfort had been a significant part of my life, but I wanted something different. I wanted to see how business is approached in other parts of the world, which is what led me to India and to ISB, Hyderabad.
To complete my graduation, I needed to do an exchange program and an internship abroad. India’s rapid growth and global influence made it clear that I would likely work with Indian clients or companies in the future. The academic reputation of ISB, its connection to India’s entrepreneurial and technological ecosystem, the perfect weather, affordable living, and the tight course schedule all came together to make it the right choice for me.
Adapting and Living the Experience
I had several key moments during my stay, but the best memories are with the Indian students who went out of their way to include me in the school and culture. Late-night chai or Maggi at 3 am in the morning, debating geopolitics or Indian history, and sharing Hyderabad specialities made me feel at home. From the warm welcome to the thoughtful conversations and the many insights I gained about India, the ISB community made my time here meaningful and remarkably smooth. Every interaction enriched my journey
Before arriving, I had many vague and sometimes stereotypical ideas about India. Spending time here revealed the richness of its culture and how much global perceptions often miss. Social media and clichés never capture the reality of this vibrant country. While not everything is perfect, I will never regret my decision to come. I was also surprised by how much I learned about Indian economics, history, and business culture thanks to the quality of the courses, Professors like Chandrashekhar Sripada and Ramakrishna Velamuri, and fellow students who were full of knowledge.
Impact on Mindset and Future Career
I would encourage any future students who hesitate about coming to ISB or India to take the leap. The country is amazing, with incredible food, festivals, monuments, and in Hyderabad, the weather is perfect. ISB is one of the best schools in India; the students are smart and engaging, and the campus is the most beautiful I have visited. You will never have time to explore all of India, and you will want to return.
This experience has had a lasting impact on my mindset and career ambitions. I am now heading to Vietnam for a business development internship where I will work with companies and clients from around the world, including India. Understanding Indian culture and people’s behaviours during my exchange has prepared me for this next step and will help me navigate professional relationships with Indian clients.
Finally, I want to thank all the ISB administration and staff for their kindness and support before, during, and after my stay. Not everything was perfect, but I am confident the school will continue improving the experience for future exchange students. I leave Hyderabad with countless memories and hope to return one day.
