ISB – POMS Workshop 2024

The 7th  ISB-POMS workshop is aimed at showcasing cutting-edge academic research in the area of Operations Management Advances in Emerging Markets.

Topics: The workshop will focus on diverse yet related topics such as agriculture and food supply chains, healthcare operations, pharmaceutical supply networks, retail operations, risk management, and sustainability that are motivated by problems in emerging economies, using datasets from these settings and/or has policy implications for these contexts. However, these attributes are not necessary for submission. All methodologies (analytical modeling, empirical modeling, statistics) are welcome, and the emphasis is on the rigorous execution of these methodologies and the practical relevance of the results.

Format: The workshop will comprise a single track of approximately ten high-quality presentations over 1.5 working days. Each presentation will be of 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of discussion. In addition to the presentations, the workshop programme will include keynote talks and a dedicated slot for a poster session featuring the work of PhD students.

Submission

Submission guidelines: To be considered for the workshop, authors must submit an extended abstract of four pages via email to isb_poms@isb.edu by April 30, 2024. It should describe the contextual motivation of the research problem, a brief discussion of the methodology used, the main results, and policy/managerial implications. The abstract should also clearly state whether the submission is toward the presentation track or the poster session. Submissions will be peer-reviewed, and final acceptance decisions will be communicated by May 20, 2024.

Retail Operations in Emerging Markets: Digital Transformation of the Traditional Retail Channel

Across emerging markets, 50 million nanostores – of which more than 10 million kiranas in India – serve about 4 billion consumers with their daily groceries. Collectively, they are the largest client of many multinational manufacturers of consumer-packaged goods. These mom-and-pop operated stores are undergoing a multi-faceted digital transformation, that has the power to improve the livelihoods of millions of shopkeepers and to increase the access to affordable food for billions of consumers. In his talk, Professor Fransoo will present recent research findings of empirical and model-based work that help understand the operational dynamics and strategic performance of the channel, and outline further research opportunities for both empirical and model-based researchers.

The registration fee for non-student attendees is INR 8000 (USD 100) and INR 2000 (USD 25) for student attendees. Registration fees will be waived for presenters. Reaching Campus

  • Radio taxi services are provided by leading service providers Meru/Easy cabs from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Hyderabad and Secunderabad railway stations. This is an air-conditioned, GPS enabled cab service with the charges payable in cash, on the basis of meter reading at the end of the journey. 
  • Anchor approximate fare will be around Rs.700 - Rs.1500 (depending on the location you are coming from)
