The masterclass was conducted by Professor Sougata Ray on ‘Building Resilient Family Businesses in Turbulent Times: Role of Next Gen Family Leaders’
[Sep 7, 2022] The Indian School of Business held the first of the masterclasses under the ISB Masterclass Series in Dehradun. Organised in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry, Uttarakhand and Young Indians, Dehradun Chapter, the session on ‘Building Resilient Family Businesses in Turbulent Times: Role of Next Gen Family Leaders’ was conducted by Prof Sougata Ray, Executive Director, Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise at ISB.
The ISB Masterclass Series is envisioned as a series of live teaching sessions by our faculty that intend to bring the ‘ISB classroom learning experience’ to participants. These masterclasses focus on topics of concurrent relevance to industry and individual participants alike.
During the session, Professor Ray said that family businesses are playing a significant role in reshaping the Indian economy and charting a new vibrant business portfolio. He also elaborated on the need for next-gen family business leaders to have a deep understanding of the transformative changes taking place in the world and emphasised on the role of women in family businesses.
“The next-gen must also be more entrepreneurial and should have the flexibility to try newer ideas. The family business is typically run with the principles of socialism but have to operate in a capitalistic market economy. It is important to balance the two aspects to sustain a family enterprise,” said Prof Ray.
The session was moderated by Sonia Garg, Chairperson, CII Uttrakhand State Council & CEO, Forace Industries. Harshit Gupta, Chapter Chair, CII-Young Indians Dehradun Chapter, also shared his perspectives.
