Madan Pillutla
Madan Pillutla is the Dean and Professor of Organisational Behaviour at the Indian School of Business (ISB), a position he has held since July 2021. He holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani and a postgraduate degree in Personnel Management from XLRI Jamshedpur. He has received Distinguished Alumni awards from both institutions. He also holds a postgraduate degree from the University of Illinois and a PhD from the University of British Columbia.
Before joining ISB, Professor Pillutla spent 22 years on the faculty of the London Business School (LBS), where he held several leadership positions, including Deputy Dean of Faculty, Member of the Management Board, Member of the Executive Committee, and Member of the Governing Body.
His research broadly focuses on decision-making and negotiations, with emphasis on cognitive and motivational biases in these areas. His research has been published in top-tier academic journals, is widely cited, and recognised for its impact.
Professor Pillutla has served on the editorial boards of several leading journals, and he has also served as an editor at the Academy of Management Annals and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.
He has won numerous teaching awards at LBS, where he introduced the popular Negotiations elective and led successful executive education programmes such as the Essentials of Leadership and Negotiation & Influence.
Beyond academia, he has consulted for and conducted corporate training for leading global companies such as Nestlé, Barclays, and Deutsche Bank, as well as multilateral institutions including UNDP and the World Bank. He also serves on the boards of organisations such as Cyient DLM, Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences, and T-Hub.
