Abstract
This study, provides insights into the ownership
pattern of family firms in comparison to the nonfamily
firms and also explores the heterogeneity
within family firms. Our analysis proves that a
pattern of declining stake of promoters in BSE
500 companies, as shown by some prior analysis,
is not true for all categories of firms. The analysis
of BSE500 firms does not give a true picture as
BSE500 excluded most of the standalone family
firms that are smaller in size.
