Abstract
The case describes the entrepreneurial zeal of Chenddyane who started a company called Jus trufs that made traditional handmade chocolates. She hailed from a non-business family. She started her first chocolate business in 1861 out of her personal savings and ran it for five years, until she got married. Her husband was based in Dandeli, a small industrial town and was running a family based business. After getting married they thought of continuing their individual businesses at their respective places but eventually, Chenddyane closed her business and moved to Dandeli. Later on, the couple decided to relocate to Bangalore to provide good education to their children. Later when her husband’s business was in serious trouble, Chenddyane decided to start a business. She contemplated upon two possibilities. The first was to start a school and the other was to produce and sell handmade chocolates. She spent couple of months experimenting and developing her own brand of chocolates. Thus Jus’ Trufs’ was born. The case deals with the challenges faced by the entrepreneur in getting a proper place, retaining the customers, mobilizing capital, keeping the chocolates fresh and dealing with competition.
