Research Summary of the Faculty
Professor Jan Keil
My research is on change in financial intermediation, especially technologically driven change, including FinTech and digital payment systems. Through my empirical work in banking and consumer finance I aspire to understand risks, challenges, and benefits these developments generate.

Roles and Responsibilities:
You will:
- Assistance to the faculty – Assisting in their ongoing research work which includes literature review, data collection, database management, and analysis.
- Data collection – Scraping data from websites or documents and compilation into usable formats for analysis. Work will involve handling large databases, and possibly text mining.
- Data cleaning – Replicating prior work to document best practices in data cleaning
- Database management – Linking different datasets, ensuring data quality, and processing raw data into processed datasets for modelling and estimation.
- Data analysis – Econometric analysis for exploratory data analysis and causal estimation, including visualization and reporting, along with sound knowledge in signal processing/latent models.
- Time commitment: This role will be for a minimum of two years
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Master from DSE or ISI or a reputed institution in India or abroad. B Tech from IIT or B Tech/Master with a high CGPA. MBA from IIM ABCs.
- Experience in the industry is preferred but not required
Skills:
- Strong coding proficiency in Python or R.
- Experience working with big data systems, concepts, and tools.
- Knowledge of text mining algorithms and their use cases as well as text pre-processing and normalization techniques.
- Background in basic econometrics is desired.
- Exposure to economic problems and econometric techniques desirable
- Motivation to pursue a career in research in finance or data science in business and finance (please explain in your cover letter)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with attention to every detail.
- Motivation to learn and a strong work ethic.
- Strong team player with cross-functional skills.
