Overview
Job Title: ISB_JEEVIKA Internship
Function: Orientation & Research Planning and Field Work & Data Collection
Location: State Project Management Unit (SPMU), Patna and · Assigned District/Block Offices across Bihar
Reports to Position: CEO, JEEVIKA (overall)
Reportees to Position: Thematic/Functional Leads at SPMU/DPCU (day-to-day)
Band: Full-time Internship (4–10 weeks) and · Summer: April–September | Winter: December–March
Duration of the Internship Programme
The internship programme will be for duration anywhere between 4 to 10 weeks. During summer from April to September, and during winter from December to March and it could coincide with summer/winter holidays of the student of the respective universities.
Structure of Internship
The selected candidates will report to the State Project Management Unit, JEEVIKA at the start of the internship and then would proceed to the concerned offices/places where the internship has been offered to them. Travelling allowance will not be paid by JEEVIKA for joining of the place of internship allotted to the candidates after the completion of internship. The selected candidates have to make their own arrangement of lodging, boarding and transportation. Internship Program structure will work as follows -
- During the 1st week, interns will be oriented towards the interventions under JEEVIKA, select a topic of their interest in consultation with the functional/thematic team and submit a synopsis.
- 2nd week onwards, the interns will start field work in the identified district or block to get exposed to and gain understanding of the selected interventions and JEEVIKA's field operations. Meanwhile, they will also start working around the topic, developing research tools, conducting FGDs, and collecting data/inputs from the field, identifying implementation gaps of the selected intervention or highlighting risk and mitigation strategies or suggesting improvement pathways for the pilot programs.
- By the end of 5th week, they normally return from the field, discuss the key observations with the thematic team and start working on their respective dissertation/internship reports.
- If needed, the interns may go back to field again for a week or two to cover the gaps in data/inputs based upon the feedback and guidance while also giving final shapes to their study/report.
- By the end of their internship (8th-10th week), they will submit their report, outlining their experiences, learnings and suggestions for BRLPS delivery or management mechanism, and make a presentation before inter/intra thematic team at the State project Management Unit of JEEVIKA in Patna.
Eligibility Criteria
The internship is open to motivated students who meet the following criteria:
- Pursuing Undergraduate, Postgraduate, or Research programmes in disciplines such as Rural Development, Social Work, Public Policy, Agriculture, Development Studies, Sociology, Economics, Management, Technology and allied subjects.
- Demonstrated interest in rural development, gender issues, livelihood promotion, community organisation, or public administration.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in rural field conditions.
- For international applicants: Valid passport, institutional endorsement, and willingness to work in remote areas of Bihar.
The international component of the internship seeks students of different graduate program from leading universities of the world. Students who are pursuing their masters/doctoral degrees in the following area of specialization like International Development, Economics, Development, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Sociology, Social Work, Rural Development, Public Health, Nutrition, Statistics etc. would be better equipped for the internship. Foreign nationals would need to have the necessary visa clearances from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Role of Bharti Institute-ISB
Bharti Institute-ISB will assist in process documentation and co-guided by their respective faculties and JEEVIKA’s functional/thematic teams. It will support anchoring the program by providing formative mentorship and facilitating interactions at important milestones, namely:
(a) Understanding research environment for drafting a crisp synopsis
(b) Planning field research and conducting socio-economic interactions
(c) Designing appropriate research tools and collecting structured information
(d) Analyzing data points and developing key insights/perspectives
Bharti Institute-ISB will also facilitate the internship process on the following aspects -
