Job Purpose
Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals for the position of Research Assistant. This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in gaining hands-on experience in policy research and analysis within a dynamic and collaborative environment. The selected candidate will work closely with experienced researchers on various projects aimed at addressing contemporary public policy challenges
Job Outline
Bharti Institute of Public Policy (ISB BIPP) aims to lead education and research in the domain of public policy. The institute stands tall as one of India’s eminent public policy think tanks engaging with eminent policy makers and providing them with critical, data-driven evidence, research, and analysis on relevant and critical concerns. As ISB BIPP continues to broaden its public policy research, we seek a Research Assistant to join our team to support the institute’s research initiatives.
The successful candidate will carry out the below activities:
- Capstone Project: The Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting AMPPP students in developing their capstone projects by reviewing drafts, providing constructive feedback, and guiding them on research methodology, data interpretation, and academic writing, under faculty supervision. Timely tracking of project progress and coordination with faculty and students will be essential to ensure the successful completion of capstone projects.
- Assisting in Publication of BIPP Policy Paper Series, Reports, Research Blogs, Policy Briefs, and Presentations: Refining content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to academic standards. Conducting fact-checking and verification of sources to maintain credibility and integrity of publications. Formatting documents according to established style guidelines, including proper citation formatting and consistent use of terminology. Coordinating with design and graphics teams to create visually appealing and informative graphics.
- Data Analysis and Research Initiatives: The Research Assistant will actively contribute to research projects by conducting literature reviews, synthesizing findings, and applying analytical tools to examine various policy-related datasets. The candidate will utilize statistical and data visualization tools to analyse trends and develop insights relevant to public policy. Creating graphs, charts, and infographics will be an integral part of making research findings accessible and impactful for both academic and policy audiences.
- Providing Administrative Support: Beyond research and publications, the candidate will provide crucial administrative and academic support, including organizing meetings, workshops, and research discussions. The role will require maintaining documentation, managing research project timelines, and facilitating effective communication between faculty, students, and external stakeholders. Ensuring smooth execution of academic initiatives and providing logistical support for policy-related events will also be part of the candidate’s responsibilitie.
Job Specifications
Knowledge / Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in the above fields (Master’s degree preferred but not mandatory)
- Strong academic record
Specific Skills:
- Strong analytical and research skills, ability to conduct literature reviews, policy analysis, and data interpretation.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Basic knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., STATA, R, SPSS) and/or qualitative coding software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti) is desirable.
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and present findings in a structured format.
- Proficiency in academic writing, with a demonstrated ability to effectively structure and articulate complex ideas in research papers, reports, and policy briefs.
- Familiarity with academic databases, academic writing conventions and referencing standards, such as APA 6th edition.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a proactive and flexible approach to tasks.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in report writing, drafting policy briefs, and creating presentations.
