After dedicating 23 years of service to the Indian Navy and being awarded the Nao Sena Medal, Captain Sunil Korti, (Retd) embarks on his next life mission: to learn the art of starting and growing a new enterprise.
Having joined ISB’s PGP Class of 2024, 44-year-old Captain Korti aims to bridge his past experiences with his future endeavours. “My immediate goal is to emerge as a thought leader and work in an organisation and capacity that would contribute to society and at the same time help me to learn how to start and grow a new enterprise.”
Born in Bijapur, Karnataka, Captain Korti holds dual master's degrees in Nautical Sciences and Defence & Strategic Studies. Throughout his career, he has been consistently recognised for his outstanding achievements. Some of them include Commendations from The Chief of Naval Staff and The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief highlight his dedication and contributions towards the nation.
In May of last year, he was honoured with the prestigious Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry) by the President of India, commending his exceptional courage and decision-making during a challenging deployment.
Reflecting on a memorable part of his journey in the Indian Navy, Captain Korti recalls, "My most significant professional achievement has been leading a team of over 100 people tasked with the induction of a new submarine into the Navy. This was a long and arduous task which required me and my team to work with multiple internal and external (including overseas) organisations to ensure adherence to strict quality control standards while successfully completing the mission."
Reflecting upon what prompted him to take up the PGP programme at ISB, he says: “Having reached the pinnacle of professional excellence as a submariner, I wanted to explore other horizons and challenge myself once again in a different arena. After studying the various business programmes in the country and abroad, I assessed that ISB’s PGP would provide me with the necessary tools to develop and grow on this new journey.”
