The 6th ISB – POMS workshop is aimed at showcasing Filed/Practice based research.

About the Event

Topics: The objective of the workshop is to demonstrate applications of operations and supply chain management techniques in practice. We invite submissions on research involving field experiments and collaboration with industry partners. These can include topics such as, but not limited to, application of traditional and innovative operations and supply chain management techniques in areas such as healthcare delivery, non-profit and public-sector operations, retail operations, service operations, inventory management, application of big data techniques on data from industry collaborations, design of field experiments, etc. All analysis methodologies (analytical modeling, empirical modeling, experiments) are welcome and the emphasis is on rigorous execution of these methodologies and practical relevance of the results.

Format: The workshop will comprise a single track of approximately ten high-quality presentations over 1.5 working days. Each presentation will be of 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of discussion. In addition to the presentations, the workshop programme will include keynote talks and a dedicated slot for a poster session featuring the work of PhD students.

Keynote speakers

Martin A. Lariviere

Professor, Kellogg School of Management

Professor Martin A. Lariviere joined the faculty at the Kellogg School of Management in 2000. Professor Lariviere's research has focused on applying economic analysis to operations management problems. Much of his work has focused on supply chain contracting, examining how contract terms can improve supply chain performance. He has also studied how the behavior of self-interested customers impacts service operations.

His research has appeared in leading academic journals such as Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Management Science, Operations Research, and Marketing Science. He has also written articles for Harvard Business Review and Sloan Management Review. He has been a member of the editorial boards of Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Management Science, and Operations Research. Professor Lariviere has also held a number of leadership positions in the Manufacturing and Service Operations Society of INFORMS. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the MSOM Society and a recipient of the Saul Gass Expository Writing Award. He currently is one of the writers of the Kellogg operations management blog The Operations Room.

Professor Lariviere received his Ph.D. from Stanford University. Prior to joining Kellogg, he was an Associate Professor at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.

Ming Hu

Professor of Operations Management at Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto

Ming Hu is a Professor of Operations Management at Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and one of the 2018 Poets & Quants Best 40 Under 40 MBA Professors. His research has been featured in media such as Financial Times. Most recently, he focuses on operations management in the context of sharing economy, social buying, crowdfunding, crowdsourcing, and two-sided markets, with the goal to exploit operational decisions to the benefit of the society. He is the recipient of Wickham Skinner Early-Career Research Accomplishments Award by POM Society (2016) and Best Operations Management Paper in Management Science Award by INFORMS (2017). He currently serves as the editor-in-chief of Naval Research Logistics, co-editor of a special issue of Manufacturing & Service Operations Management on sharing economy and innovative marketplaces, and associate editor of Operations Research and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, and senior editor of Production and Operations Management. He received a master's degree in Applied Mathematics from Brown University in 2003, and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Columbia University in 2009.

Submission

Submission guidelines: To be considered for the workshop, authors are requested to submit an extended abstract of four pages via email to isb_poms@isb.edu by August 31, 2018. It should describe the motivation of the research problem, a brief discussion of methodology used, main results, and policy / managerial implications. Submissions will be peer-reviewed and final decisions regarding all acceptances will be communicated by October 01, 2018. All authors whose abstracts are accepted for presentation should submit a full draft of the paper by November 15, 2018.
