Platform for Development Research & Communication
About
The Platform for Development Research and Communication (PDRC) is a flagship initiative of the Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP), created to document, analyse, and disseminate grounded knowledge emerging from India’s most significant development experiences.
As part of the ongoing BIPP–Routledge series Innovations, Practice, and the Future of Public Policy in India, PDRC has published six landmark volumes of microstudies in Human Development. Together, these volumes represent the fulfilment of a long-standing vision—to bring together academics, policymakers, civil society professionals, activists, and practitioners in producing a rigorous, multidimensional body of work that captures human development as it is lived, practiced, and transformed on the ground.
Spanning critical sectors such as education, health, nutrition, climate action, institutional development, and livelihoods, the volumes represent the collaborative effort of 192 authors contributing 102 chapters. Developed over two years through a series of workshops, dialogues, cross-sectoral consultations, and multiple rounds of peer engagement, the volumes blend experiential learning with academic scrutiny, filling a longstanding gap in India’s public policy scholarship.
At a time when India’s journey towards high-income status hinges on progress in health, education, skills, livelihoods, nutrition, and inclusive development, these volumes offer rich evidence, institutional insights, and grounded analytical reflection. They mark a significant step in addressing the scarcity of microstudies in Indian public policy literature, and are intended as essential reading for students, policymakers, programme implementers, civil society actors, and engaged citizens alike.
Above all, the six volumes make visible the threads that link sectors together—how nutrition impacts learning, how institutions shape healthcare outcomes, how livelihoods intersect with climate vulnerability—creating a tapestry of interconnected knowledge that reflects the true complexity and promise of human development in India.
