Madan Pillutla

Madan Pillutla is Dean & Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Indian School of Business, since July 2021. Madan has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS, Pilani, and a post graduate degree in Personnel Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur.  He has received distinguished alumni awards from both these institutions.  He also has a post graduate degree from the University of Illinois and a PhD from the University of British Columbia. 

Madan was on the faculty of the London Business School for twenty two years.  During his time there, he served in many leadership positions including as the Deputy Dean of Faculty, Member of the Management Board, the school’s Executive Committee and the school’s Governing Body.

Madan’s research is in the broad area of decision making and negotiations and much of it has investigated cognitive and motivational biases in these domains. His research has appeared in the best academic journals in the field and is widely cited. Madan has been on editorial boards of many of these journals and he has also served as an editor at the Academy of Management Annals and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. 

Madan has won numerous teaching awards at LBS where he introduced the popular Negotiations elective and directed successful executive education programs such as the Essentials of Leadership and Negotiation & Influence programs. 

Madan has also consulted or been a corporate trainer at top companies such as Nestle, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, etc., multilateral institutions such as UNDP, and training institutions such as the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy in Mussoorie.
