The inaugural ‘Business and Policy Dialogue’ was with Shri Suresh Kumar IAS, Chief Principal Secretary to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab. ISB Professors Aaditya Dar and Shekhar Tomar were in conversation with Shri Suresh Kumar on Farm Laws. Shri Suresh Kumar spoke on Farm and Agriculture policy issues, agri-reforms, critical analysis of farm bills, and more. Government of India passed three Acts aimed at transforming Indian agriculture and attracting private investment. Many have heralded this as the 1991 moment for Indian agriculture. Farmers in some parts of the country, notably in Punjab, have opposed these Acts. The state of Punjab convened a special assembly and passed three bills to strike down Centre’s farm laws. In this context, he urged and opined that market stability should be the objective of the government and not procurement, which is not coming out clearly from the union farm laws.
The Business and Policy Dialogue is an initiative of the School’s External Relations, tying up with different internal stakeholders for each dialogue. These dialogues are useful for policymakers, academics, public policy students, practitioners, and individuals who are keen on analytical information.
