Vikram Utamsingh

Country Leader for India and Managing Director, Alvarez & Marsa

He brings in 25+ years of experience in Indian M&A, distress M&A and 7 years of experience in restructuring and insolvency in the UK.

His primary areas of expertise are pre acquisition due diligence and advising buyers of distressed businesses. He has advised several bidders to buy distressed businesses in insolvency and acted as the advisor to the creditors’ committee where his role has been to evaluate bids and advice lenders onbid selection. Vikram has led the team on India’s largest bankruptcy and restructuring case, IL&FS, where lenders were owed $13 billion. In the UK, he worked on several receivership and liquidation cases involving the operationalmanagement and sale of various businesses. Vikram also serves the Private Equity Industry and has worked on more than 100 transactions for clients that include Blackstone, TPG, Warburg Pincus, Bain Capital, KKR, Temasek, Capital International and others.

Vikram is a leader in building businesses from inception with high performing teams. Previously at KPMG, he build the Transactions Due Diligence Team from its inception to a joint market leaderin India. At A&M, he hasled the buildingof the India business along with his fellow managing directors to a team of 300 today and with a reputation of a market leader in distress and turnaround restructuring.

Prior to joining A&M, Vikram spent 15 years with KPMG India where he held several leadership positions.He is a dual Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Currently based out of Mumbai, Vikram is an avid nonfiction military history reader, an enthusiastic Chelseafan an inspiring runner and a diverse music fan. He is a regular participant and contributor to Oxfam, Give India and the Foundation for Excellence. Vikram regularly arranges and drives fundraising events with several independent charitable organizations
