The first residency of Cohort 2022-23 of Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy was organised from 8^th August to 18^th August 2022 at ISB Mohali Campus. The Hon’ble Governor of Haryana, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, addressed the cohort and formally inaugurated the programme.

Guest Speaker Sessions by:

• August 8, 2022 : Mr Amarjeet Sinha, IAS (Retd.) ISB Fellow and Former Advisor to PM, delivered the keynote address during the inaugural session and spoke on ‘Public Policy and The Last Mile Delivery’, sharing his own experiences as the helm of affairs for policy implementation in Rural Development and focussed on how understanding public policy from the end of masses create extraordinary results.
• August 11, 2022 : Mr D N V Kumara Guru, Senior Director, External Relations, ISB, in his guest session on ‘Social Media for Learning, and Personal Branding’, discussed the nuances of personal branding, its contemporary techniques and impact, and focussed on the ‘whys and hows’ of using social media in everyday, especially crisis communication. In a highly interactive session, he also explained how the presence on and use of social media can be empowering -- for sharing insights, experiences, and even for personalising the organisation’s brand one works for, across all sectors.
• August 14, 2022 : Mr Avinash Pandey, CEO, ABP Network, in his session focussed on ‘Media and Public Policy’ and talked about how policies impact media content, and challenges faced by media as an industry. His unique ‘Five Ds of Indian Media’, captured the depth and width of media-consumer-policy integrated framework, followed by a dynamic question-answer round.

The second residency of Cohort 2022-23 of the Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy was organised from 4-13 November 2022 at ISB Hyderabad Campus.

Seven courses were covered during the Term. 

• Quantitative Methods for Public Policy course by Prof. Ashwini Chhatre focused on the importance of data and using quantitative methods to aid any kind of discovery and an in-depth discussion on Exploratory Data Analysis. 
• Public-Private Partnership’ course delivered by Prof O.P. Agarwal introduced the students to concepts related to PPPs such as public supply, service contacts, management contracts, joint ownership, and private supply.
• The course on ‘Gender and Development’ conducted by Prof Anjal Prakash explained, with the help of data and real-life examples, that these are the key aspects of a successful public policy. A mock Parliament was organised for immersive learning wherein the participants were asked to participate as Parliamentarians. 
• The ‘Financial Sector Regulation and Law’ course by Dr K.P. Krishnan covered an exposition of microeconomic concepts of market failure and then applied these tools to understand the role of the State in the economy generally and the task of regulation in particular. 
• The integral concepts of values and ethics, followed by the major ethical theories, were explained by Dr Aarushi Jain in her course on ‘Ethics in Public Policy’. The course focussed on a case study based approach to help participants understand key ethical dilemmas and issues such as corruption. 
• In his course on ‘Behavioural Economics’, Prof. Rajeev Gowda clarified how it inherently impacts Public Policy and how it can be harnessed to improve economic models and analyse paradoxes while touching upon the various methods of behavioural economics, rationality, and different biases. 
  
• Prof Prasanna Tantri, in his course on ‘Macroeconomics’, introduced the core concepts of macroeconomics, such as GDP and GVA, along with the concepts of subsidies, transfer payments, and net exports. Students were also acquainted with the fundamental concepts of national income.
  

• November 5 2022: Mr J Satyanarayana, Chief Advisor of the World Economic Forum, gave a talk on “Digital Transformation: Opportunities and Challenges”. The session commenced with the evolution of e-services in India, from the nascent stage focusing on efficiency in 1989 to the era of maximum governance now. The speaker stressed that addressing the gaps is key to digital evolution in India. The success of e-platforms such as Aadhaar, the largest platform in the world for digital inclusion, was discussed. 
• November 9 2022: Dr Srinivas Yanamandra, Group Head-Regulatory Affairs & Policy at One97 Communications Limited, in his session on “RBI Concept Note on Central Bank Digital Currency: Design, Technology and Policy,” covered an introduction to digital currencies, cryptocurrencies, transactions, and blockchains.

Ms Manjari Jaruhar, the first woman IPS officer of Bihar, and author of Madam Sir, during the fireside chat on 6 November 2022, talked about her life and career. The conversation emphasized the gender construct of a woman police officer. The speaker highlighted that despite being in the police force, she kept her femininity intact during her career, and in fact, she considered it as her strength. Prof. Anjal Prakash moderated the session. 

Students of AMPPP visited the T-Hub on 11 November 2022. It is an innovation intermediary and business incubator based in Hyderabad, which aims to boost the start-up ecosystem. A brief presentation reflected upon the T-Hub’s genesis, nature, framework, and functioning. T-Hub has housed about 2000 start-ups till date, linking and bringing investors, corporates, academia, mentors, innovation partners, and trade consulates together. In addition to T-Hub, the students were introduced to other components of the Telangana Innovation Network, such as T-Works, WE Hub, Innovation Cell, etc. The presentation was followed by a tour of the premises, which houses state-of-the-art facilities.

The third residency of the AMPPP Batch 7 (Co’23) was held at the Mohali Campus of the Indian Business School, from March 24-March 4, 2023.

Guest Speaker Sessions by:

• February 24, 2023 : During a special session, Anurag Awasthi, Vice President, India Electronics and Semiconductors Association (IESA), introduced the AMPPP Cohort 2023 to the geopolitical context of semiconductor operations globally. He elaborated on ecosystem enablers and accelerators for semiconductor manufacturing such as energy, water, regional affiliations, import/export metrics, workforce hinging on astute policymaking, etc. 
• February 27, 2023 : In another special session, Ravi Capoor, former CEO of Sansad TV and former secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, shed light on the process of PPE manufacturing in India during the COVID-19 crisis. He elaborated upon the challenges that the Ministry of Textiles faced vis-à-vis the procurement and manufacturing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the beginning of the pandemic in India in 2020. 
• March 3, 2023 : During his session, Professor Steven Block, an international faculty at the Tufts University and a member of the Advisory Council of the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, focused on the various facets of food policy, food security, affordability, availability, cost of nutrient adequacy. Professor Block spoke about how food prices are one of many influences on food choices under the circumstances when all diets are affordable and in the context of healthy diets being unaffordable, food prices become an insurmountable barrier to improved diet quality. 

A policy walk was conducted for the current cohort (Co’ 23) of the Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy from 4th to 6th April, in New Delhi. The participants of the cohort visited the corridors of power including the Parliament, North and South Block, and interacted with the senior functionaries of the government to get a firsthand experience in governance and understanding the nitty gritty of policymaking.

Many alumni of previous batches of AMPPP also interacted with the current cohort along with the members of the Advisory Council, Bharti Institute of Public Policy, during a gala dinner organised on the first day of the policy walk.

Special Sessions

• A fireside chat was organised with J S Deepak, IAS Retd.; Group Director, International Strategy and Public Policy, Former Secretary of Telecom and IT, Government of India and Former Ambassador WTO.
• A special address was delivered by Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Executive Board Member and Chairman, Mohali Campus Advisory Board, ISB and Vice-Chairman, Bharti Enterprises.
• Another special address was delivered by Sunil Kant Munjal, Member, Executive Board, ISB and Chairman, Hero Enterprises.
• V K Duggal, IAS Retd., and Former Home Secretary, Government of India; Former Governor of Manipur and Mizoram and a member of the Advisory Council of Bharti Institute of Public Policy, ISB, also interacted with the participants.
• T Nanda Kumar, IAS Retd., Former Secretary Food and Agriculture; Member of the Advisory Council, Bharti Institute of Public Policy, ISB, was also present on the occasion.

The fourth residency of the Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy (AMPPP) for the cohort of 2023, Batch 7, was held on May 5^th-14^th at the Mohali campus of the Indian School of Business. 

Guest Speaker Sessions by:

• May 10, 2023 : The theme of the guest session by Dr. Kartik Hegadekatti (IRTS), Deputy Secretary, Department of Personnel Training, Government of India, revolved around the captivating world of ‘blockchain technology’. The session started with discussions about the Qtum SpaceChain satellite, quantum cryptography, and quantum entanglement. The speaker provided insights about the structure of blockchain, its method of working/functionality and its role in providing one of the few ways of quantum resistant cryptography. 
• May 11, 2023 : Dr Abhishek Jain (IAS), Secretary to the Chief Minister and Secretary, Information Technology, Education & Technical Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh, delivered a special lecture on the theme ‘Implementation: The Cornerstone of Public Policy.’ The session delved into numerous factors that can cause even the most effective public policies to fail. Various elements contributing to effective implementation were discussed, such as well-crafted policy design, a clearly defined vision and objectives, attention to political economy, and collaborative decision-making that involves relevant stakeholders.
• Mary 13, 2023 : During a special session, Arun Goyal, Member, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and former Principal Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India delivered a lecture on the theme of ‘Indian Power Sector: Challenges and Public Policy Implications’ and gave a comprehensive view of the power sector in India, delving into a wide range of topics.

The Capstone poster presentations, one of the most exciting activities of the Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy (AMPPP), was held during the last leg of the residency. The 2022-23 cohort showcased their Capstone topics as research posters. A three-member jury consisting of Professor O P Agarwal, Professor A K Shiva Kumar, Indian School of Business and D N V Kumara Guru, Senior Director, External Relations, Indian School of Business presided over the session which was moderated by Professor Anjal Prakash. Students made presentations to all panel members on topics within the scope of policymaking such as climate regulation & decarbonisation Acts, taxation system in India, analysis of current legislations and way forward, to name a few.

A graduation ceremony of the 7th Batch of the Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy (AMPPP) was held at the Indian School of Business, Mohali campus on 7th April. A total of 38 students were awarded certificates of completion along with the students of PGP, MFAB and AMPH.

The graduation ceremony commenced with a formal procession led by the Chief Guest Rukmini Banerji, CEO, Pratham Education Foundation. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Mohali Campus Advisory Board and Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises; Prof. Madan Pillutla, Dean; Prof. Ramabhadran Thirumalai, Deputy Dean; and Prof. Ashwini Chhatre and other senior faculty members of the Indian School of Business also participated in the procession.

On the eve of the graduation ceremony, a faculty interaction session was also held, wherein graduating cohort participants attended one last session with the resident AMPPP faculty.
