Research Associate Position under Professor Saharsh Agarwal, Information Systems Area, Indian School of Business

Position details:

ISB is looking for candidates with strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, and excellent communication skills. We seek applications from motivated individuals with a strong academic background to work as Research Associates at ISB. Research Associates (RA) generally go on to pursue Ph.D. in internationally renowned business schools after working at ISB for 2-3 years. 

There is 1 RA position available in the Information Systems Area with Professor Saharsh Agarwal.

Research area: 

The candidate will assist the faculty in their ongoing research work, which is situated at the intersection of technology and society. Some of the largest firms today are technology platforms such as Facebook, Youtube, Amazon and Uber, which have had significant societal impacts beyond the boundaries of their digital properties. For instance, social media platforms are influencing elections, are serving as radicalization pipelines and are contributing to the worsening mental health in society. Excessive usage of platforms like Youtube and Instagram is being linked to anxiety issues and inappropriate sexual behaviour in young children. While the positive impacts of these platforms have been well documented, growing evidence of such negative externalities is leading to significant policy scrutiny. Policymakers around the world are realizing the need for clear regulations in order to minimize the pitfalls associated with the

operation of these platforms. This requires extensive investigations into their various positive

and negative societal effects, which is the focus of the faculty’s current research.

The position is best suited for a candidate with an interest in pursuing a PhD down the line.
 

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Master’s level degree (A bachelor level, 4-year degree with a high CGPA too is fine). Background in statistics/economics/machine learning is highly desired.
• Familiarity with programming languages (R/Python etc.)
   

Skills and Qualifications 

B Tech from IIT, NIT or BITS (preferably in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering)

or

MBA/ PGDBM from premier institutions like IIMs 

Or

Other

Consistently high CGPA, evidence of academic excellence.

The candidate must have high standards in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and absolute commitment to task completion.
