Job Purpose

Responsible for managing a randomized control trial about tuberculosis (TB) care

 

Job Outline

The Research Manager position requires significant training and experience in empirical research and management. The Research Manager will be responsible for (i) managing the overall project including data collection, data security, and logistical support, (ii) implementing partner and funder relationships, (iii) supervising the field teams including but not limited to Research Associates, data collection personnel, and work in close collaboration with research staff, and (iv) be responsible for high quality, secure, and ethical data collection. In addition, the Research Manager will interact directly with the project PIs and Co-PIs and will be expected to meet with and present regularly to implementing partners and project donors.

About the project:

A randomized control trial funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to study the impact of monitoring methods using digital technologies, such as 99DOTS, MERM and Refill Monitoring on TB treatment. The primary objective is to study how these monitoring methods impact the patient’s adherence and clinical outcomes. The trial will involve implementation of specific interventions, collection of primary data (surveys and interviews) as well as secondary programmatic data, which will then be analyzed to estimate the impact of the interventions. Additionally, qualitative studies will be conducted to understand the behavioral mechanisms driving the impact.

Desirable Experience

1.    Master’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Public Health or other fields with quantitative training.

2.    Graduates from other disciplines may also be considered if they have relevant experience and can demonstrate the relevant skills

 

1.    Excellent verbal and communication skills in (1) English, and (2) Hindi or Gujarati

2.    Ability to plan tasks for teams, monitor progress, make corrections to plans.

3.    Strong budget management skills required.

4.    Team player with good problem solving and time management skills.

5.    Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

6.    Proficient with data collection techniques and field research including primary data collection.

7.    Willingness to frequently travel within the study sites

1.    Minimum 3 years of relevant experience including management of a randomized control trial

2.    Experience in at least one statistical and computational packages (in addition to MS Excel) such as STATA, R, Python

3.    Proven experience managing teams and projects.

4.    Significant experience with data collection techniques and data analysis software.

5.    Experience in interpreting data analysis

Technical Tasks

a.    Supervise and support Research Associates in creating trial protocols, data sets, cleaning and running checks to spot errors, and generally preparing data for analysis using MS Excel, STATA and/or R data analysis software

a.    Collaborate with PIs to develop the RCT protocol and oversee compliance of the study protocol.

b.    Report regularly to PIs and Co PIs on project progress, problems, spending, and schedule; lead regular team, PI, and partner meetings.

c.    Supervision of project staff through all stages of the research to ensure effective and efficient implementation of field activities

d.    Support research staff in analysis, and drafting research paper and policy briefs

e.    Responsible for keeping research project on schedule

f.     Prepare, update, and manage project budgets

a.    Present ongoing and completed research results from projects with partners, broader stakeholders in government, donors, and others in person and virtually.
