Sikkim Tragedy: ISB faculty proposes measures to mitigate GLOF Impact in Himalayas

In an opinion piece, ISB faculty Anjal Prakash recommends measures to reduce the harmful effects of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) amid tragedy in Sikkim. Writing in The Quint, he says, “GLOFs are a perilous type of natural occurrence that frequently takes place in high mountain areas, most notably, the Himalayas. The sudden release of water from glacial lakes – which normally emerge as glaciers melt due to rising temperatures – causes this catastrophic disaster.”
