Shuttling Ace - Ajay Jayaram

Ajay was just a seven-year-old when he walked into a badminton academy in Chembur, Bombay (yet to be Mumbai back then) with his dad. “My dad’s only intention was to get me interested in some sports,” says Ajay. But in three years, his talent in athletics was coming out, and Ajay was playing under-10 years tournaments at the state level.

His success in these tournaments made his progress to playing national tournaments, and by 17 years, he was representing India in international men’s singles tournaments. Since then, Ajay has won many laurels for India in tournaments worldwide. Representing India, he became champion and runner-up in several international tournaments.

After achieving a career-best world ranking of 13, he retired this year owing to his injuries; Jayaram decided this was the right time for him to join ISB. “Going ahead, I would look to be in consulting or the sports-related management field,” he says, describing his goals post his ISB – PGP.
