Joint study by ISB, TSCHE and CCETS on higher education assessment in Telangana released

A report based on a joint study by the Indian School of Business, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), and the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education Government of Telangana (CCETS) on the assessment and evaluation systems in higher education in the state of Telangana, was released recently.

The report titled "Assessing Assessments in Higher Education: A Study of the Assessment and Evaluation Systems in Higher Education in the State of Telangana," delves into innovative strategies aimed at bolstering formative assessment systems, harnessing the power of technology, and transitioning from the conventional 'assessment for learning' approach to the progressive 'assessment as learning' paradigm.

According to a survey conducted as part of this study, it was revealed that 41% of the teachers express dissatisfaction with the present evaluation and examination system, while only 14% of the students believe that the present evaluation system is highly effective (scoring above 80%). “Students want industry desired skills to improve their prospects of employment and want to be assessed through internships, practical field studies, and projects,” the report states.

Chandrasekhar Sripada, Professor of Organisational Behaviour (Practice) at ISB and Principal Investigator of the study, commented: “The study sets forth a series of recommendations, most notably the establishment of a Centres for Innovation in Assessment and Evaluation in every university throughout the state. These recommendations are proposed to be implemented incrementally to enhance the higher education landscape in Telangana.”

Smt. Sabita Indira Reddy, Honourable Education Minister of the Government of Telangana released the report. Smt. Vakati Karuna, IAS Secretary, Education, Government of Telangana, and Professor Limbadri, Chairman of TSCHE were also present, among others.
