Overview

Sumeet Kumar is an Assistant Professor at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad. He studies problems at the intersection of technology and society. He is interested in analyzing user behavior, quantifying online forums' polarization, and finding advertisements disguised as regular content on online platforms. His current focus is on finding implicit/hidden advertisements in videos posted on kids' platforms like YouTube kids.

Additionally, he has also conducted research on software design and development, in particular user experience. He has investigated the use of phone sensors in emergencies to improve situational awareness. His study on the wireless-emergency-alerting (WEA) service in the United States addressed several issues of central importance to emergency alerts effectiveness and adoption. Some of his research recommendations were included in the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposed changes to WEA.

Sumeet completed his undergraduate education at IIT Kanpur. He has Masters degrees in Software Engineering and Machine Learning, both from Carnegie Mellon. He also earned his doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University.
