About MIHM

Max Institute of Healthcare Management (MIHM) is an interdisciplinary research centre at the Indian School of Business that provides deep insights on healthcare delivery and management to policymakers, public institutions, and corporates, and enables the creation of better health systems through the integrated elements of research, education, and outreach.

MIHM’s research is focused on the areas of (a) Health system management, (b) Innovation and entrepreneurship, (c) Financing and public policy, and (d) Patient-centricity / health behavior across delivery, pharma, and insurance sectors.

Research at MIHM includes the study of the impact of health system design on population-level health outcomes, the role of incentives in healthcare delivery, application of behavioral economics to promote wellness and healthy behavior, leadership and change management in healthcare delivery institutions, innovation, and scalability of social ventures in healthcare, and use of technology in creating new models of healthcare delivery. Supporters and collaborators of MIHM include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Centre for Global Development Europe, National Institute of Nutrition, PATH, Resolve to Save Lives, The Rockefeller Foundation, Clinton Health Access Initiative, and World Health Partners, among others.

As MIHM continues to strengthen and consolidate ongoing research and publishes articles and insights for health practitioners and policymakers, we seek a Research Director to join our team who will play a key role in advancing this mission.

Job Summary

This is a position in an academic setting. The research director (RD) will develop and strengthen MIHM’s portfolio of research initiatives while working closely with the Executive Director (ED) and the school’s faculty members aligned with MIHM.

The RD will lead the research team of MIHM comprising post-doc researchers, analysts, associates, and interns to execute research projects. In addition, the RD will be responsible for carving out various research outputs based on the findings from the projects. These include peer-reviewed articles, white papers, opinion pieces, scientific reports, policy briefs, and explainers.

Desirable Experience

·       PhD in Management, Economics, Statistics, or health related disciplines.

·       Candidates with a Master’s degree from top institutes with 10+ years of research experience may also be considered.

·     Deep understanding and appreciation of management principles applied to healthcare.

·     Excellent problem solving & analytical skills.

·     Track record of having co-led and managed multiple projects simultaneously.

·     Demonstrable experience of working with mid to large teams.

·     Organization & time management skills

·      Experience in conducting health services/ implementation research.

·      Experience in the publication and dissemination of journal publications, reports, articles and other written materials with preference to management, health services and policy domains.

·      Experience in preparing grant applications.

Writing proposals and Grant Applications

·     Scan the environment for new funding opportunities from domestic and international government agencies, philanthropic foundations, corporate funders as well as multilateral donors.

·     Engage and secure faculty commitment for the identified opportunities and support them to develop the grant applications.

·     In cases without the involvement of faculty, lead the development and submission of grant proposals.

Project Execution

·     Oversee and ensure high quality execution of research projects within the specified time and budgets.

·     Provide technical and subject matter expertise (e.g., designing of research tools, analysis of data, review of literature, writing of manuscripts) to the project teams and faculty leads as and when needed.

·     Recruitment, development and management of high-quality research teams

Producing knowledge outputs

·     Design and lead the drafting of peer-reviewed journal articles based on findings from completed projects.

·     Design and lead the development of non-academic white papers, unpublished technical reports, management briefs, opinion and editorial pieces for practitioners and policy makers.

·     Make presentations at national and international academic and policy conferences and workshops

·     Deepen relationships with key funding agencies and government departments
